Built for heat
MSC’s shade structures protect crops against pests and against physical damage from the weather. They also shade the crop, which creates good growing conditions in the sunniest months.
In much of northern and inland Australia, the challenge is too much sun, not too little warmth. A shade structure costs far less than a closed greenhouse.
Two models
- Mesh house (Casa Malla): a peaked mesh structure, 2.5 m to 3.5 m high at the sides and 5 m to 5.5 m at the centre. It comes in light (10 × 10 m grid), semi-reinforced (9 × 6 m) and reinforced (8 × 6 m) versions. The semi-reinforced and reinforced versions carry the crop on steel wires.
- Flat shade house (Umbráculo plano): a flat-roofed structure on a 3 m or 4 m grid, up to 4 m high. It suits nurseries and crops that don’t need overhead support.
Popular uses
- Production nurseries and seedling hardening
- Tropical and subtropical fruit
- Leafy greens and herbs in summer
- Insect exclusion for low-spray growing
