The project
In 2016, MSC began installing a 5-hectare high-tech greenhouse for tomato production in Armenia. The photo shows the site being surveyed and set out before construction began, with Mount Ararat in the background.
A demanding climate
Armenia has a continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. A greenhouse there has to cope with snow loads and heating in winter, and with heat and ventilation in summer.
What it means for Australia
Growers on the Southern Tablelands, in the Victorian high country and in Tasmania face a similar mix of hot summers and frosty winters. It’s a reminder that MSC’s range covers far more than the Mediterranean.
