The project

One of MSC’s recent projects is more than 200 greenhouses in Nigeria, built to grow tomatoes, peppers and capsicums in a hot climate. It was reported in January 2021.

“In tropical areas, where humidity is high, we design the greenhouse trying to maximise ventilation.” Iñaki Vaquero, MSC

Training and ongoing support

Despite COVID-19 travel restrictions, MSC’s technical team visited several times during the project. The team trained local staff in the agronomic management of the crop.

Testing designs in different climates

MSC invested in trialling different technical options at sites with different climatic conditions across the country. The results show how each design affects both the investment and the yield.

What it means for Australia

Far North Queensland, the Top End and the Kimberley have the same problem: heat combined with high humidity. Greenhouses there need to be designed for maximum airflow, not just shade.
